Betway Review 2026: Not Available to US Players

Betway does not accept players from the United States. Its owner, Super Group (NYSE: SGHC), closed the Betway sportsbook in all nine US states where it was live after announcing the exit on 10 July 2024, then announced on 8 July 2025 that it would leave US online casino as well, a closure it expected to complete early in the fourth quarter of 2025. Today, Betway’s international terms list “USA and its outlying territories” as a restricted jurisdiction, so skip to our US-friendly live casinos below. For readers in countries where it does operate, Betway remains a large, regulated brand with licences from the UK Gambling Commission and the Malta Gaming Authority and a live casino built on Evolution, Pragmatic Play Live, OnAir Entertainment and Playtech tables.

We rewrote it as a full Betway review, because Betway’s current terms also list India as a restricted country and India’s Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025 bans online money games. An important difference from Betway: if something goes wrong at an offshore site, there is no state regulator to complain to, and your balance is not protected the way it is at a state-licensed casino. Eight states have legalised online casinos; seven markets are live (New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia, Connecticut, Delaware and Rhode Island), and Maine legalised a tribal-only market (LD 1164: became law without the governor’s signature in January 2026, effective 29 July 2026) that had not launched as of October 2026. Betway at a glance

Betway in the United States: what happened

Betway entered the US after the Supreme Court struck down the federal sports betting ban in 2018 and built a state-licensed sportsbook, plus online casinos in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. It never operated as an offshore site in the US: every product it ran there was licensed state by state. That presence has now ended in full.

What the NJ fine was about

The Division found that Digital Gaming Corporation failed to add self-excluded people to New Jersey’s Self-Exclusion List on time between March 2024 and January 2025, so some of them could still bet on other platforms. It also let customers exceed their own deposit limits on two days in June and July 2025. DGC accepted the penalty. Because the violations predate the final closure, the order arrived after Super Group had already announced its exit.

If you still had a Betway, Spin Palace or Jackpot City balance in NJ or PA

Contact the operator’s support first; Betway’s general terms (section 4.6) say that when it closes a brand or market it will try to return cash balances above 10 EUR/USD/CAD and may charge a 5-unit monthly administration fee if it cannot reach you. Because these were state-licensed sites, you can also complain to the regulator that licensed them: the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement or the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board. That protection is exactly what US players lose at offshore casinos.

Could Betway return to the US?

Nothing Super Group has published points to a return. Its third-quarter 2025 release splits Betway revenue into Africa and Middle East ($219 million, 63% of the brand’s revenue in that quarter), Europe ($81 million) and North America, which now means Canada ($33 million). Until a new announcement appears, treat Betway as unavailable in every US state.

Licence, owner and where Betway operates

Betway was founded in 2006, the year in its Malta licence number, and became part of Super Group, which listed on the NYSE in January 2022 through a merger with a special purpose acquisition company. Different Betway sites are run by different group companies under local licences, so the licence that protects you depends on the site you sign up to.

• International site (betway.com): operated by Betway Limited (C39710), licensed by the Malta Gaming Authority to offer Type 1 and Type 2 gaming services under licence MGA/CRP/130/2006, issued on 1 August 2018, according to the site footer and section 2.1 of the terms.
• United Kingdom: Betway Limited holds an active UK Gambling Commission licence, account number 39372, with its head office in Gzira, Malta.
• Canada: Betway appears on iGaming Ontario’s list of regulated operators for casino, poker and sports betting. Trade press reported that Betway went live in Alberta’s newly regulated market on 28 September 2026.
• Other markets: the betway.com footer links to separate Betway sites for the UK, Canada, Ireland and Germany, and the group runs a separate site for South Africa. Super Group’s own figures show Africa is Betway’s biggest region.

Restricted countries

Section 2.2 of the betway.com terms bars anyone who lives in or is physically located in a long list of places, and says accounts used there will be closed and bets voided. The list includes the United States and its outlying territories, the United Kingdom (served by its own UK site), Ontario (served by Betway’s Ontario site), India, Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Sweden, Brazil, Mexico, the Philippines, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana and South Africa. If you are in one of those places, look for Betway’s local licensed site where one exists, and never use a VPN to get around the block.

India: why the old version of this page no longer applies

Our previous review described rupee deposits, NetBanking and a rupee welcome bonus. None of that is valid now. India is on Betway’s restricted list, and the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, which received presidential assent on 22 August 2025, prohibits offering online money games and bars banks and payment systems from processing payments for them. Readers in India should not try to open a Betway account.

Regulator actions

• UK Gambling Commission, March 2020: Betway agreed to pay £11.6 million over social responsibility and anti-money laundering failings linked to seven high-spending customers. One VIP deposited more than £8 million without adequate source-of-funds checks, and the Commission said £5.8 million flowing through the business was, or could reasonably be suspected to be, proceeds of crime.
• UK Gambling Commission, 21 September 2022: a £408,915 penalty after Betway’s logo, linking to its website, appeared on children’s pages of West Ham United’s website between April 2020 and November 2021. There was no suggestion that Betway deliberately targeted children, according to the Commission.
• New Jersey DGE, 15 October 2025: Order #2890, covered in the US section above, fined Digital Gaming Corporation $112,188.96.

The UKGC public register for Betway Limited showed no regulatory actions listed when we checked in October 2026, which reflects how long the register displays older cases rather than a clean record.

Betway welcome offers

Offers depend on the country site you use. The international betway.com site showed two welcome offers in October 2026, and you pick one at registration.

Casino Cashback Welcome Offer

New customers who select this offer get 30% of their net casino losses back for the first 24 hours after their first deposit. The minimum deposit is $5, there is no maximum cashback, and the refund is paid to your cash balance, not as bonus money. It covers all casino and live casino games, so live blackjack and roulette count. The offer is valid for 14 days from registration, and you lose it if you do not deposit within that time (Betway casino bonus terms, last updated 4 February 2026).

Worked example: you deposit $200 and finish the first 24 hours down $100 across all casino games. Betway credits $30 in cash, normally within an hour of the window closing but up to 24 hours later. Finish the 24 hours up, or level, and you receive nothing. Losing your whole $200 would return $60. Compare that with a typical match bonus with 25x to 45x wagering: the cashback is smaller, but you can withdraw it straight away.

Sports Welcome Offer

The sports alternative refunds a losing first bet as a free bet of up to $100, plus 20 free spins worth $0.20 each on Gates of Olympus. Your qualifying bet needs a $10 minimum stake, at least three selections, minimum total odds of 1.75 and minimum odds of 1.30 per leg. Horse racing bets do not qualify.

Betway live casino: studios and games

The live lobby on betway.com, viewed in October 2026, drew its tables from four studios. Counting the game tiles shown, Evolution supplied the most, followed by Pragmatic Play.

Roulette

Roulette is the deepest category, with single-zero European tables, speed and auto formats, and multiplier games. Lightning Roulette adds multipliers of 50x to 500x on up to five straight-up numbers per spin; see our Lightning Roulette guide. A standard single-zero table carries a 2.70% house edge, which is the benchmark to compare the multiplier games against.

Blackjack

Seated seven-player tables sit alongside unlimited-seat games such as Infinite Blackjack and variants with side features, including Free Bet and Power Blackjack. The rule changes in those variants raise the house edge slightly compared with a standard table played with basic strategy, so check each table’s rules panel.

Baccarat and Asian games

Pragmatic Play and Evolution supply most of the baccarat, from standard and speed tables to squeeze formats. Game shows

Crazy Time, Monopoly Live, Dream Catcher, Funky Time, Deal or No Deal Live and Pragmatic’s Mega Wheel and Sweet Bonanza CandyLand make up the show section. These games have higher house edges than the classic tables, and returns vary by bet spot, so treat them as entertainment rather than value bets.

Banking, withdrawals and account rules

The betway.com terms set out the rules that apply whichever payment method you use. Payment options themselves vary by country and are shown in the cashier after you sign up.

Section 1.3 states that customer funds are held in a segregated bank account, separate from company funds. That, together with the Malta and UK licences, gives Betway customers in eligible countries a level of protection that offshore US-facing casinos do not offer.

Complaints

Start with Betway’s customer support. If you play on betway.com under the Malta licence and the dispute is not resolved, use an alternative dispute resolution body: the MGA’s Player Support Unit stopped ruling on individual disputes on 1 April 2019. UK customers who reach the end of Betway’s complaints process can take the dispute to an approved ADR provider, which every UKGC-licensed operator must offer.

Who Betway suits, and who should look elsewhere

Good fit: players in the UK, Ontario, Alberta and other markets where Betway holds a local licence, who want a big regulated brand with a large live lobby, a welcome cashback that works on live tables and a sportsbook in the same account.

Look elsewhere: anyone in the US or India (Betway does not accept you), players in any other country on the section 2.2 list, and live dealer fans who want a large match bonus rather than a one-day cashback.

Our verdict

Betway is a legitimate, heavily regulated operator. It has paid large UK fines in the past, and its US operator was fined in New Jersey in 2025, but it holds active licences from the UK Gambling Commission and the Malta Gaming Authority and appears on Ontario’s regulated list. For US readers, though, the answer is simple: Betway left the US sportsbook market in 2024 and US online casino in 2025, and its terms now bar US residents. Use one of the US-friendly casinos above, or a state-licensed casino if you live in a state with a live market.
