What’s the Best Real-Money Poker App for Android or iPhone? (US, 2026)

Which real-money poker apps are legal in your state: WSOP, PokerStars, BetMGM, DraftKings and BetRivers in NV, NJ, PA, MI, DE and WV, plus offshore options.

Community cards and chip stacks on a poker table

The best real-money poker app for you depends on the state you are standing in. As of October 2026, US players can legally play online poker against other people for money in six states: Nevada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Delaware and West Virginia. WSOP is the only brand that covers both Nevada and the big eastern markets, PokerStars (now run on FanDuel’s platform), BetMGM and DraftKings pool players across New Jersey, Michigan and Pennsylvania, and BetRivers Poker is the only option in Delaware and West Virginia. In every other state, the poker apps that accept US players are offshore and hold no US state licence.

This guide lists the licensed apps state by state, explains how app store rules and geolocation work, and then covers the offshore rooms with the risks spelled out. Already know where you will play? Our poker hub covers game rules and the full legal picture.

Updated October 2026. Operator lists were checked against the Nevada Gaming Commission’s licensee page, Michigan Gaming Control Board announcements (April and July 2026), the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement’s August 2026 revenue report and Pokerfuse’s US tracker (29 September 2026). The old page recommended PokerStars, 888poker and partypoker without saying where they are legal; that advice has been replaced.

What’s the Best Real-Money Poker App in Your State?

State Regulator Licensed poker apps (October 2026)
Nevada Nevada Gaming Control Board / Gaming Commission WSOP; Real Gaming (South Point Poker LLC) is also licensed
New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement WSOP, PokerStars (on FanDuel), BetMGM, Borgata Poker, partypoker, DraftKings Poker
Pennsylvania Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board BetMGM, Borgata Poker, partypoker, BetRivers Poker, DraftKings Poker, PokerStars (on FanDuel), WSOP
Michigan Michigan Gaming Control Board PokerStars (on FanDuel), BetRivers Poker, BetMGM, DraftKings Poker, WSOP
Delaware Delaware Lottery BetRivers Poker (since June 2025)
West Virginia West Virginia Lottery BetRivers Poker (first poker site, June 2025)
Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection None: online poker was legalised in 2021, but no poker site has launched
All other states None for online poker No state-licensed online poker

You must be 21 or older to play at any of these state-licensed poker rooms, and you must be physically inside the state while you play. Residence does not matter: a New York resident can play WSOP in New Jersey after crossing the state line, and a New Jersey resident cannot play from New York. Our page on the legal status of online poker in New York tracks the bills there.

Shared Player Pools: Why the Network Matters

Federal law leaves online poker to the states. Six states (Nevada, Delaware, New Jersey, Michigan, West Virginia and Pennsylvania) belong to the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA), which lets licensed operators combine their player pools across state lines. Pennsylvania became the sixth member when Governor Josh Shapiro signed the agreement on 23 April 2025.

Shared pools mean more tables, more games running at odd hours and bigger tournament guarantees, so the network matters more than the logo on the app.

Network States pooled Notes
WSOP Nevada, New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania The only network that includes Nevada; runs online bracelet events each year
PokerStars on FanDuel New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania MGCB approved FanDuel’s multi-state poker, using the PokerStars brand, effective 1 April 2026
BetMGM (with Borgata Poker and partypoker) New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania Borgata Poker and partypoker share the BetMGM network in New Jersey and Pennsylvania
DraftKings Poker New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania Multi-state launch on 8 July 2026, per the MGCB; operates in Michigan through the Bay Mills Indian Community
BetRivers Poker Pennsylvania, Michigan, Delaware, West Virginia The only licensed room in Delaware and West Virginia

Even with shared pools, regulated US poker is small. New Jersey’s Division of Gaming Enforcement reported peer-to-peer poker winnings (the rake and fees operators keep) of $2,557,705 for August 2026, down 3.2% from $2,642,778 in August 2025. For players, that means good traffic at micro and low stakes in the evening and thinner action at high stakes.

888poker, once a major New Jersey brand and recommended on the old version of this page, does not appear as a separate brand in New Jersey’s August 2026 revenue report or in Pokerfuse’s current list of US operators.

The Licensed Poker Apps at a Glance

WSOP

WSOP’s online poker is run by Caesars Interactive Entertainment, the Nevada licensee named on the Gaming Commission’s list. It is the only licensed network that reaches Nevada, and it also pools New Jersey, Michigan and Pennsylvania. In New Jersey it operates under the Tropicana (CIENJ) licence, according to the DGE’s revenue report.

PokerStars on FanDuel

PokerStars kept its brand when FanDuel took over the US poker platform. The Michigan Gaming Control Board approved FanDuel’s multi-state poker across Michigan, Pennsylvania and New Jersey from 1 April 2026, with MotorCity Casino as the Michigan operator partner. New Jersey’s August 2026 report shows no revenue left under the old PokerStars and Resorts line, consistent with that move.

BetMGM, Borgata Poker and partypoker

These three brands share one network. BetMGM Poker runs in New Jersey, Michigan and Pennsylvania; Borgata Poker and partypoker add New Jersey and Pennsylvania traffic to the same tables. In New Jersey, partypoker and Borgata both report under the Borgata licence.

DraftKings Poker

DraftKings is the newest multi-state network. The MGCB announced that it launched shared poker between Michigan, Pennsylvania and New Jersey on 8 July 2026, operating in Michigan through the Bay Mills Indian Community.

BetRivers Poker

BetRivers Poker connects Pennsylvania, Michigan, Delaware and West Virginia. It brought online poker back to Delaware in June 2025 after the state lottery changed platform, and in the same month became West Virginia’s first poker site.

Licensed vs Offshore Poker Apps Compared

Feature State-licensed apps Offshore rooms
Where you can play Only inside NV, NJ, PA, MI, DE or WV Most states; each brand excludes some
Minimum age 21 Set by the operator (18 at Bovada, Ignition and BetOnline)
App store availability App Store and Google Play Mobile browser, desktop client or APK only
Complaint route State regulator Operator’s own process; no US regulator
Player funds Protected under state rules No state protection
Typical payments US bank and card methods, varying by operator Mainly cryptocurrency
Player pool Limited to MSIGA states on each network US-wide pools across many states

Put simply, a licensed app gives you legal protection and a regulator if something goes wrong, while an offshore room gives you access from more states with none of that protection.

What Are the Most Critical Things in a Real-Money Poker App?

  1. A licence for your state. The app should show the state regulator’s name and licence details in its footer or terms. That is what gives you a complaint route and protects your balance.
  2. Player traffic. A bigger network fills more tables at your stakes and runs larger guaranteed tournaments.
  3. Game formats. Check for the formats you play: no-limit hold’em and pot-limit Omaha cash games, fast-fold games, Sit & Go’s and multi-table tournaments.
  4. Software quality. Look for multi-tabling on mobile, a readable table layout on a phone screen, reliable reconnection after a dropped signal and hand histories you can review.
  5. Cashier. Payment options and payout times vary by operator; check the methods available in your state before you deposit.
  6. Responsible gambling tools. Licensed apps must offer deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion.

Rake matters too. Every room takes a small percentage of each cash-game pot up to a cap, plus a fee on tournament buy-ins. At low stakes that cost is a large share of what a winning player can make, so loyalty and rakeback programs are worth comparing.

iPhone and Android: How App Store Rules Work

Apple and Google both allow real-money poker apps, but only for licensed operators. Apple’s App Store Review Guidelines (section 5.3.4) require real-money gambling apps to have the necessary licensing and permissions in the places where they are used, to be restricted to those locations and to be free to download. Google Play’s real-money gambling policy similarly limits these apps to approved, licensed operators in eligible locations.

In practice:

  • State-licensed rooms such as WSOP, BetMGM, PokerStars, BetRivers and DraftKings publish apps in the App Store and Google Play for the states where they are licensed, and in some states a separate app per state.
  • Offshore rooms are not in either store. Bovada, Ignition and BetOnline cannot meet the licensing rule, so they run in the mobile browser or through a download from their own sites.

An app that appears in the App Store with a “real money” poker label but no state licence is almost always a social or sweepstakes game, not real-money poker.

How Geolocation Works (and Why It Fails)

Every state-licensed poker app checks your physical location before you sit down, and keeps checking while you play. On a phone it uses location services; on a computer the room usually asks you to install a small location plug-in. If the check fails, you cannot join a table.

Common causes of a failed check include:

  • location services switched off for the app;
  • a VPN, proxy or remote-desktop tool, all of which licensed rooms block;
  • playing close to a state border, where the signal can place you on the wrong side;
  • a weak Wi-Fi signal on a computer, which leaves too little data to confirm where you are.

Licensed rooms take location seriously because their licence depends on it. Trying to get round the check can lead to a closed account and forfeited winnings.

How to Get Started With a New Poker Room

  1. Check your state. Use the table above. If your state is not listed, there is no licensed option where you are.
  2. Download the official app. Use the App Store, Google Play or the room’s own website for your state, not a third-party link.
  3. Create an account and verify your identity. Licensed rooms must confirm your name, age and address before you can deposit or withdraw.
  4. Allow location access. The app will not seat you until the geolocation check passes.
  5. Set limits, then deposit. Set a deposit limit in the responsible gambling settings before your first deposit.
  6. Start small. Play the lowest stakes or freerolls while you learn the software. Brush up on poker hand rankings and our starting-hand charts first.

What’s the Best US-Friendly Real-Money Poker Site Outside the Licensed States?

If you live in one of the 44 states without licensed online poker, the poker rooms that accept you are offshore. Three of the brands we review run peer-to-peer poker rooms, shown below in our standard order. MyBookie is left out because it offers house-banked casino poker only, not a poker room.

Offshore risk note: Bovada, Ignition and BetOnline are offshore with no US state licence. Each excludes some states, there is no state regulator to complain to, and player funds are not protected the way state-licensed operators must protect them. None of them is in the App Store or Google Play.

  • Ignition is built around poker. It offers Texas Hold’em and Omaha cash games, fast-fold Zone Poker, anonymous Incognito tables where opponents cannot see your screen name, Sit & Go’s and multi-table tournaments. The poker room plays in a mobile browser on iPhone and Android or through a desktop client for Windows and Mac; there is no app-store app. Half of the welcome bonus is a poker bonus released through Ignition Miles earned at the tables.
  • BetOnline runs a poker room with a downloadable client for Windows and Mac, and an Android poker-only APK from its own site. It holds a Panama licence, not a US one, and Michigan, Tennessee and Massachusetts issued cease-and-desist orders against it in 2025.

An APK is an Android app installed from outside Google Play. Installing one means allowing unknown sources on your phone, so download only from the brand’s own website.

Sweepstakes and Social Poker Apps

Many free-to-download poker apps are social games played for chips with no cash value, or sweepstakes models that award redeemable “sweeps coins”. They are not licensed real-money poker. Several states have moved against sweepstakes casinos, including California (1 January 2026), New York (8 December 2025), Indiana (1 July 2026), Maine (29 July 2026), Louisiana (1 August 2026) and Oklahoma (1 November 2026). Check whether a sweepstakes app still operates in your state before you buy coins.

How to Make the Most of Online Poker Bonuses

Poker bonuses work differently from casino bonuses. Most are not credited up front. Instead they unlock in small chunks as you pay rake or earn loyalty points at the tables, within a time limit.

  • Read the release rate. Ignition, for example, releases its poker bonus at $1 for every 30 Ignition Miles earned at the poker tables, within 30 days. If you cannot play enough in that window, a smaller bonus is worth more.
  • Check which products count. Combined casino and poker offers often split the money, with separate rules for each half.
  • Compare loyalty programs. For regular players, ongoing rewards beat a one-time welcome bonus.
  • Look at tournament tickets. Some rooms give freeroll or tournament tickets instead of cash; their value depends on whether you play those events.

The old advice to “clear the bonus as quickly as possible” is a recipe for playing above your bankroll. Pick stakes you can afford and let the bonus follow.

What to Do if You Run Into Problems While Playing Poker

Start with the room’s customer support and keep screenshots, hand IDs and chat transcripts. If support does not fix it:

  • State-licensed rooms: file a complaint with the state regulator. The Michigan Gaming Control Board, New Jersey’s Division of Gaming Enforcement and the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board all accept player complaints about licensed operators, and Nevada’s Gaming Control Board handles disputes over winnings under NRS 463.362.
  • Offshore rooms: there is no US regulator to complain to. Bovada names its own Dispute Resolution Office as the last step, and BetOnline’s terms place disputes under Panamanian law.

For game-related questions, such as how a hand was ranked, every licensed room keeps a full hand history you can request.

Real-Money Poker Strategy Basics for Mobile Players

A phone screen changes how you play. Fewer tables at once is usually better: two tables on a phone is plenty for most players, and fast-fold formats deal many more hands per hour than a normal table. Use the app’s pre-action buttons sparingly, because acting instantly every time gives observant opponents a timing pattern. Our guides on when to bluff in poker and tournament strategy cover the decisions that matter most at low stakes.

Play Responsibly

Poker apps make it easy to play at any hour. Set deposit and session limits in the app before you start, never chase losses, and keep poker money separate from bills. FAQ

Yes, in six states. As of October 2026, Nevada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Delaware and West Virginia license real-money online poker, with apps from WSOP, PokerStars (on FanDuel), BetMGM, Borgata Poker, partypoker, DraftKings and BetRivers depending on the state. You must be 21 or older and physically in the state.

Can I play real-money poker on my iPhone?

Yes, if you are in a state with licensed online poker. Licensed operators publish their apps in the App Store, which requires real-money gambling apps to be licensed and restricted to the locations where they are legal. Offshore rooms are not in the App Store and run in Safari or another mobile browser instead.

Which poker app has the most players in the US?

Among licensed rooms, the multi-state networks are the largest: WSOP pools Nevada, New Jersey, Michigan and Pennsylvania, while PokerStars on FanDuel, BetMGM and DraftKings each pool New Jersey, Michigan and Pennsylvania. Traffic shifts month to month, so check current lobby numbers before choosing.

No state-licensed room will let you play from a state where it is not licensed; geolocation blocks you. Offshore rooms such as Ignition, Bovada and BetOnline accept players in many states, but they hold no US state licence, offer no state complaint route and give no state protection for player funds.

Do I have to live in the state to play?

No. Licensed poker apps check where you are, not where you live. Visitors can play while physically inside a licensed state, provided they are 21 or older and pass identity checks.

Is 888poker still available in the US?

Not as a separate brand that we could verify. 888poker does not appear in New Jersey’s August 2026 revenue report or in Pokerfuse’s September 2026 list of US poker operators. In New Jersey, the main licensed alternatives are WSOP, PokerStars on FanDuel, BetMGM, Borgata Poker, partypoker and DraftKings Poker.

Is PokerStars still available in the US?

Yes, in New Jersey, Michigan and Pennsylvania. Since 1 April 2026 the Michigan Gaming Control Board has approved FanDuel to run multi-state poker across those three states using the PokerStars brand.
