Extreme Live Gaming Review: What Happened to the Studio

Extreme Live Gaming review: Novomatic took a stake in 2014, Pragmatic Play bought it in June 2018 and the brand is gone. History, games and US options.

A live casino control room with monitors showing table feeds

Extreme Live Gaming no longer exists as a separate studio. Pragmatic Play bought it from the Novomatic Group in June 2018, renamed its UK company PragmaticPlay Live UK Limited three months later and went on to build its own live casino, Pragmatic Play Live, around a new studio in Bucharest. US players cannot find Extreme Live Gaming tables at any casino today, and Pragmatic Play Live is not offered at state-licensed US casinos either.

Updated October 2026. Our previous review described Extreme Live Gaming as a Novomatic-owned studio streaming from London and called it the second-biggest name in live dealer games. Both points were out of date by mid-2018. This page now covers what the studio was, who owned it and when, what happened to its games, and where US players can find live tables instead. We removed the old casino list because none of those brands accepted US players.

What Happened to Extreme Live Gaming?

Pragmatic Play announced on 25 and 26 June 2018 that it had completed the purchase of Extreme Live Gaming from the Novomatic Group. The price was not disclosed. At the time, trade reports said the studio held licences in Malta and the UK and ran 10 live tables of roulette, blackjack and baccarat from its studios in London. Pragmatic’s chief commercial officer, Melissa Summerfield, said the name “stands for quality and innovation”, and Palenzuela stayed on as CEO through the deal.

The UK paperwork shows what followed. According to Companies House, the company’s long-serving secretary, appointed in January 2014 with an address at Astra House in Bridgend (the Novomatic UK base), resigned on 22 June 2018. On 21 September 2018 Extreme Live Gaming Limited was renamed PragmaticPlay Live UK Limited. It then became Pragmatic Services Limited in December 2019, Arrise Services Limited in May 2023 and Ballaspur Limited in December 2024. Today it is filed as a dormant company with a Gibraltar-based director, which means it no longer trades.

Pragmatic Play did not keep the Extreme Live Gaming name on its products. In April 2019 it announced a Class II licence from Romania’s National Gambling Office (ONJN) for a newly built live casino studio in Bucharest, with capacity for 43 tables at launch. The first games were live roulette, blackjack and baccarat, with Speed Roulette, Auto Roulette and Baccarat Super Six on the roadmap. That studio, not the old London operation, became the base of Pragmatic Play Live. We found no public statement on when the London tables stopped streaming.

The old web address tells the same story. In October 2026, extremelivegaming.com loads a generic “gaming directory” site with no link to Pragmatic Play, so we no longer link to it.

Where US Players Can Play Live Dealer Games Now

Extreme Live Gaming never supplied US casinos, and the same is true of its successor. Pragmatic Play was not active in the licensed US iGaming market when it announced on 2 September 2025 that it would stop supplying its games to US sweepstakes casinos, a move reported after the City of Los Angeles sued Stake.us. We found no state regulator approval for Pragmatic Play in October 2026.

Eight states have legalised online casinos; seven markets are live (NJ, PA, MI, WV, CT, DE, RI); Maine legalised a tribal-only market (LD 1164: became law without the governor’s signature in January 2026, effective 29 Jul 2026) that has not launched (Oct 2026). If you are physically in one of the seven live states, a state-licensed casino is the safest route, and studios such as Evolution supply those markets.

Elsewhere, the offshore casinos below accept players from many states. None of them lists Pragmatic Play Live tables: Bovada’s tables are labelled Gold Tier Gaming and Dynamite Interactive, MyBookie uses VIG, BetOnline runs VIG and Fresh Deck Studios, and Ignition does not name its studio. These are not Extreme Live Gaming casinos.

Company History: From Manila to London to Pragmatic Play

Extreme Live Gaming was the project of Darwyn Palenzuela, and our earlier review dated its debut to 2013. Its UK company was set up on 7 January 2014. In April 2014 Global Gaming Business reported that Astra Gaming Group, Novomatic’s UK subsidiary, had bought a majority holding for an undisclosed sum. At that point the business was headquartered in Manila, streamed from Asian studios with Asian and European dealers, and planned a European studio in London for the third quarter of 2014.

Date Milestone
2013 Extreme Live Gaming launches under founder Darwyn Palenzuela (date per our earlier review)
7 January 2014 Extreme Live Gaming Limited incorporated in the UK
April 2014 Astra Gaming Group (Novomatic) takes a majority holding; London studio planned for Q3 2014
2014 to 2018 Part of Novomatic’s UK group, alongside Astra Games, Bell-Fruit Games and Greentube
25 to 26 June 2018 Pragmatic Play completes its purchase from Novomatic
21 September 2018 UK company renamed PragmaticPlay Live UK Limited
April 2019 Pragmatic Play’s Bucharest live studio receives a Class II licence from Romania’s ONJN
December 2024 Former Extreme Live Gaming company renamed Ballaspur Limited; now dormant

Two ideas set the studio apart in its Novomatic years. The first was the “eXtreme Mode” feature, and the second was the eXtreme Live Box, a system for streaming tables from land-based casinos to PCs, phones, tablets and TVs. Its other strength was access to Novomatic’s slot brands, which it used to build slot-themed roulette games. A link-up with Greentube, Novomatic’s online arm, was planned from the start so that casinos could reach the games through one integration.

The Games Extreme Live Gaming Made

Extreme Live Gaming only built live dealer games. At the time of the Pragmatic deal, trade press named Golden Ball, Reel Roulette and Roulette 360 as its leading titles. The table below lists the wider range described in our earlier review. None of these tables is marketed under the Extreme Live Gaming name today.

Category Titles (historic) Notes
Roulette Auto Roulette, Classic Roulette, Golden Ball Roulette, Multi-Wheel Roulette, Roulette 360 Its largest category; European, French and American variants were listed
Slot roulette Reel Roulette, plus Novomatic-themed tables such as Sizzling Hot Roulette and Reel King Roulette Each roulette number linked to a slot symbol for an extra payout
Blackjack Live Blackjack, VIP Blackjack Our old review described 8-deck games with side bets
Baccarat Classic Baccarat, Baccarat Squeeze, Super 6 See our Extreme Live Gaming Baccarat page for the old tables

Slot roulette was the studio’s signature. A normal roulette spin decided the main bets, and each number was also tied to a symbol from a Novomatic slot, so a winning number could pay a side prize. Its new owner has since built crossover games along similar lines, such as Sweet Bonanza CandyLand and Gates of Olympus Roulette, based on its own slots rather than Novomatic’s.

For the rules and odds of these games at today’s tables, see our live roulette guide, which also covers how live wheels differ from RNG games.

Pragmatic Play Live Today

The business that grew out of the 2018 purchase is Pragmatic Play Live, although it was built on a new studio rather than on Extreme Live Gaming’s London set. Pragmatic Play’s live casino page lists more than 30 live games, a user interface in 28 languages and approvals from the Malta Gaming Authority, the UK Gambling Commission and Romania’s ONJN (Class II), with certifications for markets including Italy, Sweden, Denmark and Bulgaria.

  • Card games: blackjack, baccarat, Dragon Tiger and Russian Poker.
  • Wheel and roulette games: Mega Wheel, Mega Roulette, Fortune Roulette and PowerUP Roulette.
  • Game shows and slot crossovers: Sweet Bonanza CandyLand, Gates of Olympus Roulette, Snakes & Ladders Live, Dice City and The Bingo Spot.
  • Regional games: Andar Bahar, aimed at South Asian players.

Our Pragmatic Play live casino review covers that range in more detail. Remember that the casino, not the studio, holds your money, so check the casino’s licence before you deposit anywhere.

Our Verdict

Extreme Live Gaming was a genuine early player in live dealer software, with UK and Malta licences, a London studio and an original idea in slot-themed roulette. It is also history. Novomatic owned it for about four years, Pragmatic Play bought it in 2018, and the brand faded as Pragmatic built its own live casino in Bucharest. Any site still promoting “Extreme Live Gaming casinos” in 2026 is showing an outdated page. US players should look at state-licensed casinos where they are legal, or weigh the risks of the offshore brands above. We explain how we judge studios and casinos on our how we rate page.

Extreme Live Gaming FAQ

Does Extreme Live Gaming still exist?

Not as a brand. Pragmatic Play bought Extreme Live Gaming from Novomatic in June 2018, and its UK company was renamed PragmaticPlay Live UK Limited on 21 September 2018. That company, now called Ballaspur Limited, is listed as dormant at Companies House. The extremelivegaming.com domain now hosts an unrelated gaming directory.

Who owns Extreme Live Gaming?

Pragmatic Play has owned it since June 2018, when it bought the studio from the Novomatic Group for an undisclosed sum. Novomatic had held a majority stake since April 2014 through Astra Gaming Group, its UK subsidiary. Darwyn Palenzuela founded the business and was still its CEO at the time of the sale.

Was Extreme Live Gaming legit?

Yes. At the time of the 2018 sale it held licences from the UK Gambling Commission and the Malta Gaming Authority and ran 10 live tables from a studio in London. It supplied licensed casinos in Europe rather than running casinos of its own.

What replaced Extreme Live Gaming?

Pragmatic Play Live. After the purchase, Pragmatic Play built its own live casino around a new studio in Bucharest, which received a Class II licence from Romania’s gambling regulator (ONJN) in April 2019. Its range now includes Mega Wheel, Mega Roulette, Sweet Bonanza CandyLand, blackjack, baccarat and Dragon Tiger.

Can US players play Extreme Live Gaming or Pragmatic Play Live games?

Not at a state-licensed US casino, as far as we can find. Pragmatic Play was not active in the licensed US iGaming market when it stopped supplying US sweepstakes casinos in September 2025, and none of Bovada, Ignition, MyBookie or BetOnline lists its live tables.

Where can I play live dealer games in the US instead?

If you are physically in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia, Connecticut, Delaware or Rhode Island, use a state-licensed casino. Elsewhere, offshore sites such as Bovada, Ignition, MyBookie and BetOnline accept players from many states, but they hold no US state licence.
